Fossil energy is subsidized many times more than sustainable energy (1). And most of the biggest polluters, like the steel industry and airlines, do not pay pollution taxes. Experts agree that taxation should shift from clean to dirty energy. A start was made by taxing carbon emissions. But according to a study by the World Bank the pricing is wrong and unfair exemptions are made (2).In the video below professor Van der Ploeg (Oxford University) discusses climate change, its consequences and the obvious solutions more at length. He explains why temperatures will rise and what the consequences will be if nothing is done about it. Streams of climate refugees will come to Europe, in far greater number than we have experienced so far. This calls for substantive pollution taxes, the proceeds of which should go back to the people, so that on average there is no change in the tax burden.
